Event will hear from social historian Professor Emma Wild-Wood on ‘World Christianity and African Religions’.
Edinburgh believers interested in hearing about the interplay between Christianity and the indigenous religions of Africa may be interested in a lecture being held this coming June at Edinburgh University’s School of Divinity.
Africa specialist Emma Wild-Wood is Professor of African Religions and World Christianity at Edinburgh University. Her distinguished career has seen her as Director of the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide and she also served at the Divinity School of Cambridge as ‘’Lecturer in World Christianities’.
Christianity has had a presence in Africa since Bible times, with the recorded account of a convert in the Book of Acts, when Philip wins over an Ethiopian eunuch. Today, Christianity is widespread and growing in Africa, with the World Christian Encyclopedia predicting there will be some 633 million believers by 2025.
Anyone interested in attending can hear the lecture for free – start time is 4.30pm on 8th June. It is being held at Martin Hall, New College, Mound Place, Edinburgh EH1 2LX.
