Classical Christian education to be offered to pupils from this year
Christian parents may be interested in a new school opening later this year, aiming to give a Christian and classical education to pupils.
Located in Carrington, a village 10 minutes to the south of the city, it will be the first of its kind serving the city. Its ethos reads:
“At Saint Andrew’s Orthodox Church School we see each pupil and each member of staff as a child of God, created to live with Him eternally – in joy and truth. We see our life as an opportunity to cultivate a loving relationship with the Lord. Our values stem from this.”
The School’s curriculum breaks learning into three basic stages – grammar (giving children straight cts about the word around them), logic (getting children to ask questions about that world) and finally rhetoric (the applying and expressing of all they’ve learned). All the content is in line with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, which enables students to move on to other schools if need be and have their learning recognized.
Other interesting features of the school includes it taking the welfare of boys in particular into account. It has been widely acknowledged by educators that boys generally don’t do as well as their female counterparts in school, due to the, having more of a leaning towards physical activity. St Andrew’s Orthodox takes this on board by giving boys more free time to move and get out the classroom.
Further, no homework is given by the school. According their website, the reason is “We do not want to take up the few precious hours that families have together in the evenings with homework tasks that tire children and stress their parents. We want to do our part to secure time when family life can occur.”
The school is now open for applications. To find out more about the school’s ethos, curriculum and structure, visit: https://saintandrewsorthodoxchurchschool.org.uk/
