Faith outreach to addicts continues in Edinburgh

Teen Challenge runs bi-weekly outreaches across the City

Those struggling with drug or alcohol issues on Edinburgh’s streets can receive practical and spiritual help from the twice-weekly outreach being run by Teen Challenge, a charity founded in 1968 for addressing these issues, and which has programs running throughout the UK.

On a Monday, their van goes to Moredun on a Monday evening and Leith on a Thursday. From there, they can access more resources offered by Teen Challenge, such as their 12- month recovery program, staying at their three Scottish residential centres.

The great need for the program can be seen in recent statistics – Scotland has the highest drug death toll in Europe and 2022 saw its second-highest mortality figure. As well as this, the economic cost to Scotland of drug crime and treatment programs runs to many millions each year.

The faith-based program seeks also to bring people into a relationship with Jesus and into a church fellowship. “Our prayer is that we will be able to reach out to many more people in this city with the Good News of Jesus Christ” they say.

More information on the charity can be found at www.teenchallenge.org.uk or you can phone their Edinburgh coordinator Colin Adam on 07707 951 497.
