City of Edinburgh Methodist Church will be helping three charities in Zimbabwe and Ghana during 2023

Believers looking to support vulnerable people in Africa can do so through three schemes being supported by City of Edinburgh Methodist Church during 2023. The three projects are:

Project One: Bulawayo orphanage

Clara Stuart of Methodist Church is asking for donations to help her to continue her work helping vulnerable people in Zimbabwe by providing goods to an orphanage in Bulawayo, south-east Zimbabawe. The item she is looking for include: clothes for children and babies, books and toys for children and non-perishable food items, like rice and pasta. The cost of transportation is around £7 per kilo.

Project Two: The Methodist Medical Centre, Ghana

This project aims to expand the Methodist-owned medical centre, with their maternity block growing from two beds just now to ten beds. 74 staff work in the block in Kumasi Diocese, under the leadership of the Reverend Stephen Kwaku Owusu, but better infrastructure and equipment is "badly needed" in the hospital.

Project Three: World Bicycles

Getting around can be a real issues for some people living in remote parts of Africa, where there may be poor infrastructure without road or rail. This makes it difficult to do everyday tasks like going to school, delivering medical equipment or getting goods to market. The charity World Bicycle Relief provides bikes to enable communities to be more active and mobile - in 2021 for example, they handed out over 84,000 bicycles, helping over 420,000 people in the process.
